12.5 AIS vectors
Vectors can be displayed for AIS targets.
1. COG vector — The length of the COG vector
predicts the distance the target will travel within
a specied time period. The COG vector can be
set to ‘Relative’ (Orange) or ‘True’ (Blue) motion.
2. Rate of turn — Class A targets, if available can
display a Rate of Turn (ROT) indicator.
3. Heading — The Heading line is a xed length.
Vector motion mode
The COG vector can be set to Relative or True
motion mode independently of the Chart or Radar
application’s motion mode.
True motion
In True motion the COG vector displays the actual
target’s predicted course / position.
Relative motion
In Relative motion the COG vector is displayed in
relation to your own vessel’s position.
Note: By default the motion mode for target
vectors are synchronized with the motion mode of
the application they are displayed in. When the
application’s motion mode is changed the motion
mode for the target vectors are also changed.
Enabling and disabling AIS vectors
From the Chart or Radar application:
1. Select an AIS target.
The AIS target context menu is displayed.
2. Select AIS Vector.
Selecting AIS Vector will switch between On and
Off.
Note: The vector settings apply to both MARPA
and AIS targets.
