26.1 GRIB (Gridded Information
in Binary) Viewer overview
GRIB les contain historical / forecast meteorological
data in binary format. The GRIB Viewer produces
animated visualizations of the data contained
in compatible GRIB les. GRIB les may be
downloaded directly from within the GRIB Viewer
application or can be manually downloaded.
The GRIB Viewer can display visualizations for the
following data types:
• Wind
• Precipitation
• Pressure
• Temperature
• Wave
• Sea surface temperature (not animated)
• Tidal stream (North-Western Europe only)
• Nexrad (US only)
Note: In-App downloads require a valid Theyr
subscription from the LightHouse

Chart Store:
https://charts.raymarine.com/ and an internet
connection to your MFD.
1. GRIB Data type icons
• When logged in to the Chart Store, selecting
an icon will download temporary GRIB les
and play an animation of the selected data
type. The icon for the data type being played
is ticked and the icons for all data types
contained within the downloaded le will also
appear colored. If the GRIB Viewer is not
logged in to the Chart Store, only the icons for
data types available in the currently selected
GRIB le will be displayed.
• The data will remain available until a different
data type icon has been selected or the GRIB
Viewer is closed and another app is opened
from the Homescreen
2. Vessel position — The Black circle indicates
the current location of your vessel. The vessel
position is only shown if position data is available
to your MFD.
3. Progress bar — The progress bar shows the
position of the current animation and identies
the date and time stamp.
4. Animation controls — The animation controls
enable the animation to be paused, played or
skipped forwards and backwards.
Note:
• The GRIB Viewer and associated GRIB les
are MFD specic and can only be viewed on
an MFD that is logged in to the Chart Store or
contains the downloaded GRIB les. To use
the GRIB Viewer on more than 1 MFD, each
MFD must be logged in and have the GRIB les
downloaded to it.
• Only 1 instance of the GRIB Viewer may be
displayed in an application page.
