Patterns
Attempting a search in the water is challenging, due
to the vastness of the ocean, how difcult it is to
spot something in the water and because of the
effects of tide; the object you are searching for will
not normally be in its last known location. Search
patterns can be created by your MFD.
The Search Patterns available are:
• Sector Search
• Expanding Square
• Creeping/Parallel Line
Once a search pattern is created it is saved as a
Route and can be managed and navigated in the
same manner as any other saved Route.
Note: Before attempting to follow a search pattern
ensure that you have set the Waypoint Arrival
Radius to the minimum value, otherwise the route
navigated will not follow the search pattern.
Creating a Sector Search pattern
The Sector Search pattern is made up of 3 equal
sized triangle sectors. Each of the triangle sectors is
made up of 3 legs of equal time (The Track Spacing
will change depending on whether you are with or
against the drift).
Note: As the Search patterns take in to account
drift, the resulting Route may not resemble the
patterns shown.
To create a Sector Search pattern follow the steps
below:
1. Select Search Patterns from the Navigate menu:
(Menu > Navigate > Search Patterns).
2. Select Sector Search.
