Generator and controller
4.7.1 Description
The generator is abrush-less, electronically controlled synchronous
generator which is designed for continuous operation and is very
speed-tolerant. As aresult, it has ahigh service life, is maintenance-free
and very free of interference. The ball bearings used in the generator are
maintenance-free.
Usual for the iMAPLA systems: the generator generates a3-phase a.c. U-V-W
(~AC) which becomes d.c. in the switch box for the magnetic voltage.
The generator housing is made from aluminium alloy resistant to see
water and protected against splash water according to IP54. The switch
box attached to the generator housing with the control electronics
and the cables meet protection class IP65when all of the connection cables
have been inserted correctly. The switch box with the control electronics is
connected with the generator via aplug-in cable and can either be attached
to the generator itself (“One Unit” construction type) or mounted separately
(“External Unit” construction type).
The generator is attached either directly to the foundation to two
attachment brackets or is screwed onto rails which allows it to be moved
(depends on the type of drive).
The cooling air is drawn in by the fan wheel on the rear side of the generator
and across the housing, towards the front side, blown through the cooling
prole.
The switch box contains the power electronics for turning the generator
voltage into d.c. and for controlling the voltages and currents for the lifting
magnet as well as the control electronics for the generator itself. The
electronics is highly integrated in the latest C-MOS technology and built in
SMD assembly of technology. Where required, the Powerboard can be fully
sealed or painted using special coating processes and stuck together. These
possible versions have been tried and tested in various shaker and eld tests.
As aresult, the electronic circuits are especially vibration- and shock-proof.
