13 Disaster recover y
This section details the VLS disaster recovery procedures. It is comprised of the following topics:
• Recovering from a node RAI D volume failure
• Recovering from operating system failure
Recovering from a node R AID volume failure
TorecoverfromanodeRAIDvolumefailure,whichoccurswhenbothnodeharddrivesfail:
1. Replace the failed node hard drives. See SAT A hard drive.
2. Install the o
perating system on the new hard drives.
a. Connect a keyboard to the keyboard connector. See Rear panel components.
b. Connect a monitor to the video connector. See Rear panel components .
c. Insert the V
LS Quick Restor e CD into the CD-ROM or DVD-CD drive.
The VLS Quick Restore CD auto starts.
d. Press R on the keyboard to start the re-installation of the operating system.
The installation takes 30 minutes or less to complete. The screen may freeze for the last 10
minutes of
the installation. This is normal.
The VLS Quick Restore CD is ejected and the system reboots when the installation is complete.
3. Restore the configuration settings. See Restoring the configuration settings.
4. If one or more capacity licenses had been a dded to the VLS, re-install the VLS capacity license(s) .
See Re-in
stalling the VLS capacity licenses.
Restoring the configuration settings
The VLS virtual library configuration and network settings can be quickly restored from the confi guration
file created by performing Saving configuration settings.SeeRestoring the virtual library configuration
from a configuration file.
If a configuration fi le was not created, you must reconfigure the network settings, a nd rebuild the virtual
library and virtual drive configurations, and the VLS300 storage pool con figurations (see the section
called “Recreating the VLS300 storage pools”.Thecartridgeconfigurations, however, do not have to be
rebuilt, as they are store d on the disk arrays. See Rebuilding the virtual library configuration.
Restoring the virtual library configurationfromaconfiguration file
Restoring the virtual library configuration from the con figuration file restores the virtual library and virtual
drive configurations, and administrative and network settings (including the VLS serial number and
persistent FC port WWPNs) .
To res
tore the virtual library and network settings from the configuration file:
1. Set the network settings so you can open a Command View VLS session. See Setting the network
settings.
2. Open
a Command View VLS session and log in as the administrator. See Opening a Command
View
VLS session from Command View TL.
3. Add all secondary nodes using the Add Node Wizard. For each secondary node:
