•Asageneralconsideration,donotmixstandard512-byteandadvanced4-KBformatdrivesinthesame
RAIDarraybecauseitmayleadtopotentialperformanceissues.
•Makesurethatyouhaveallthecablesandotherequipmentthatarespecifiedinthedocumentationthat
comeswiththedrive.
•Selectthebayinwhichyouwanttoinstallthedrive.
•Checktheinstructionsthatcomewiththedrivetodeterminewhetheryouhavetosetanyswitchesor
jumpersonthedrive.IfyouareinstallingaSASorSATAharddiskdrive,besuretosettheSASor
SATAIDforthatdevice.
•Thehot-swapservermodelssupportuptotwenty-six2.5-inchorfourteen3.5-inchhot-swapSASor

•Theelectromagneticinterference(EMI)integrityandcoolingoftheserverareprotectedbyhavingall
baysandPCIExpressslotscoveredoroccupied.WhenyouinstalladriveoraPCIExpressadapter,
savetheEMCshieldandfillerpanelfromthebayorPCIExpressadapterslotcoverintheeventthat
youlaterremovethedevice.

Step1.Readthesafetyinformationthatbeginson“Safety”onpagevand“Installationguidelines”on
page297
.
Step2.Removethefillerpanelfromtheemptydrivebay.Keepthefillerpanelinasafeplace.
Step3.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainsthedrivetoanyunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthe
server;then,removethedrivefromthepackageandplaceitonastatic-protectivesurface.
Step4.Installtheharddiskdriveinthedrivebay:
a.Makesurethatthetrayhandleisintheopen(unlocked)position.
b.Alignthedrivewiththeguiderailsinthebay.
