Thischapterprovidesinformationaboutupdatingtheﬁrmwareandusingtheconﬁgurationutilities.

Updatingtheﬁrmware

Usethisinformationtoupdatetheﬁrmware.

Important:

1.Someclustersolutionsrequirespeciﬁccodelevelsorcoordinatedcodeupdates.Ifthedeviceispart

ofaclustersolution,verifythatthelatestlevelofcodeissupportedfortheclustersolutionbefore

youupdatethecode.

2.Beforeyouupdatetheﬁrmware,besuretobackupanydatathatisstoredintheTrustedPlatform

Module(TPM),incaseanyoftheTPMcharacteristicsarechangedbythenewﬁrmware.Forinstructions,

seeyourencryptionsoftwaredocumentation.

3.Installingthewrongﬁrmwareordevice-driverupdatemightcausetheservertomalfunction.Beforeyou

installaﬁrmwareordevice-driverupdate,readanyreadmeandchangehistoryﬁlesthatareprovided

withthedownloadedupdate.Theseﬁlescontainimportantinformationabouttheupdateandthe

procedureforinstallingtheupdate,includinganyspecialprocedureforupdatingfromanearlyﬁrmware

ordevice-driverversiontothelatestversion.

YoucaninstallcodeupdatesthatarepackagedasanUpdateXpressSystemPackorUpdateXpressCD

image.AnUpdateXpressSystemPackcontainsanintegration-testedbundleofonlineﬁrmwareand

device-driverupdatesforyourserver.UseUpdateXpressSystemPackInstallertoacquireandapply

UpdateXpressSystemPacksandindividualﬁrmwareanddevice-driverupdates.Foradditionalinformation

andtodownloadtheUpdateXpressSystemPackInstaller,gototheToolsCenterforSystemxand

BladeCenterathttps://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/LNVO-CENTERandclickUpdateXpress

SystemPackInstaller.

Whenyouclickanupdate,aninformationpageisdisplayed,includingalistoftheproblemsthattheupdate

ﬁxes.Reviewthislistforyourspeciﬁcproblem;however,evenifyourproblemisnotlisted,installingthe

updatemightsolvetheproblem.

Besuretoseparatelyinstallanylistedcriticalupdatesthathavereleasedatesthatarelaterthantherelease

dateoftheUpdateXpressSystemPackorUpdateXpressimage.

Theﬁrmwarefortheserverisperiodicallyupdatedandisavailablefordownloadonthewebsite.Tocheck

forthelatestlevelofﬁrmware,suchastheUEFIﬁrmware,devicedrivers,andIMM2ﬁrmware,goto

http://www.ibm.com/support/ﬁxcentral.

Downloadthelatestﬁrmwarefortheserver;then,installtheﬁrmware,usingtheinstructionsthatareincluded

withthedownloadedﬁles.

Whenyoureplaceadeviceintheserver,youmighthavetoupdatetheﬁrmwarethatisstoredinmemoryon

thedeviceorrestorethepre-existingﬁrmwarefromaCDorDVDimage.

Thefollowinglistindicateswheretheﬁrmwareisstored:

•UEFIﬁrmwareisstoredinROMonthesystemboard.

•IMM2ﬁrmwareisstoredinROMonthesystemboard.

•EthernetﬁrmwareisstoredinROMontheEthernetcontrollerandonthesystemboard.
