M A E D A Crawler Crane 5.3 MACHINE TRAVELLING
5/2020 CC1908S-1 5-13
Always ensure that the machine can be
stopped at any time if it slips or becomes
unstable.
When travelling downhill on steep inclines, use
the travel lever to maintain low speed.
When travelling downhill on inclines of 10
degrees or more, travel with the sprocket (A) at
the downhill side and travel with reduced
engine speed in the posture as shown in the
figure.
Travel downhill with the sprocket (A) at the
downhill side. If the machine is driven
downhill with the sprocket (A) at the uphill
side, the crawler track may become loose,
causing pitch jumping.
[BRAKING WHEN TRAVELLING DOWNHILL]
The brake is automatically applied when the
travel lever is placed in the neutral position.
[WHEN ENGINE STOPS]
When the engine stops while travelling uphill,
place the travel lever in the neutral position to
stop the machine, then restart the engine.
[PRECAUTIONS ON SLOPES]
Do not open or close the sliding door while
travelling on a slope. The required operating
force may change suddenly.
Be sure to keep the slide door locked.
Pay due attention when opening and closing
the sliding door when the machine is stopped.
The door may suddenly open or close under its
own weight, which can create a dangerous
situation.
5.3.1.5 PRECAUTIONS WHEN
STARTING AND OPERATING
INSPECTION BEFORE STARTING
OPERATION
Omitting the inspections after starting the engine
may result in delays in discovering machine
abnormalities as well as personal injury or
machine damage. Inspection should be carried
out in a clear area. No unauthorized persons
should be allowed to approach the machine.
Ensure that motion of the machine coincides
with the indication on the operation pattern
card.
Check the operation status of devices, running
status of the machine, winch hoist up/down,
boom derricking, and crane operating status
such as telescoping and slewing.
Inspect for machine sounds, vibration, heat,
odour, instrument errors, air leaks, oil leaks,
fuel leaks, water leaks, and other issues. Pay
particular attention to fuel leaks.
Always repair any abnormalities found.
Attempting to use the machine without
servicing may result in unexpected personal
injury and/or machine failures.
CAUTION AGAINST TOPPLING ON
UNSTABLE GROUND
Always observe the following points to prevent
serious injuries or fatal accidents when travelling
over unstable ground for unavoidable reasons:
Do not travel into areas with soft ground.
Otherwise, the machine may become stuck.
Where possible, avoid travelling close to
unstable ground near cliffs, road shoulders,
and deep trenches.
There is a risk of the machine toppling or
falling if the ground gives way due to the
weight or vibration of the machine. Particular
caution is necessary after rain, use of
explosives, or earthquakes, as the ground will
be unstable.
Where possible, avoid travelling close to
unstable ground on embankments or
excavated trenches.
There is a risk of the machine tilting if the
ground gives way due to the weight or vibration
of the machine.
