WIRE ROPE REPLACEMENT
CRITERIA
IMPORTANT
The criteria for replacing wire rope apply to
all the wire ropes used for winching,
telescoping the boom, and slinging.
Measure the diameter of the wire rope at
points where the wire repeatedly runs
through the sheave. A mean value needs to
be determined from measurements in three
directions.
Do not use old wire rope even if it has not
been used.

to "6.18.1.4 WINCH WIRE ROPE
REPLACEMENT" on P. 6-79.

[2] Wire rope replacement criteria
Wire rope suffers fatigue over time.
Replace the wire rope if any of the following
conditions apply:
1. If the number of broken wires is equal to or
greater than the following ratio with respect to
the total number of elemental wires in the
outermost strands (excluding filler wires):
10 % or more over a single twist of rope.
However, if breakage occurs in a single
strand only, the ratio should be 5 % or
more.
