WASHER DOOR
While there are different door diameters
for each washer model based on the size
(capacity) of each model there are several
basic parts to the doors used on all models.
First is the door ring. The door ring is the basic
structural formed stainless steel “doughnut”
that mounts the door sealing gasket which in
turn on most models secures the door glass in
place. The exception is the door used on the
MFR60 and MFR80 models, which secures
the glass with an industrial adhesive to the
door ring, or the gasket is sized smaller than
the door ring and is stretched to t tightly to
the door ring.
The door ring is bolted to the door hinge on
the right side of the ring at the 3:00 o’clock
position. The door hinge in turn is bolted
to the front plate of the outer tub. The door
hinge consists of the hinge bracket fastened
to the tub front, the hinge plate fastened to
the door ring and a hinge pin that allows the
door to pivot. Hinge shim plates (shims) are
mounted between the door hinge bracket and
the tub front and between the hinge plate
and the door ring to provide proper spacing
of the door assembly to the front lip of the
tub front opening (loading port). This spacing
is critical to assure the door gasket seats
against the tub lip evenly (door ring parallel
to the tub front) with enough seal pressure to
avoid water leaks from around the door. This
has to be done without so much pressure
that the door gasket takes a “set” from over-
compression or causes the door ring to “ex”
and not seat evenly. (See page 8-26) for door
adjustments.
At the 9:00 o’clock position on the left side
of the door ring is the door handle and door
handle lever. This assembly is bolted to the
door ring and provides the method to secure
the door in the closed (and locked) position.
A cast metal block secures a stainless steel
pivot pin for the door handle lever. Like the
door hinge bracket , there are shims used
between the door ring and this handle lever
mounting block. A coiled “toggle spring” is
used to give the handle lever both an “open”
and a “closed“ position. See the section
covering the door lock for the function of the
door handle lever as it relates to the locking of
the door.
The door gasket is a molded rubber part that
has a groove for the inside lip of the door ring
and a groove for the outside lip of the door
glass.
