Configuring System Settings
The following steps will help the Administr ator set up the System por tion o f
the configu ration. While the con figuration file(C PD.SFR) is not intended to b e
transferrable, the A pplications settings can be su ccessfully copied from one
system to another. The System settings cannot. T his i s because different
systemshavedifferentnetworkdevicesanditisuncommontofindtwothat
are the sam e.
1. List all the network se g ments that are connected to computers t hat are to
be c o nfigur ed.
Include inte rnal networks a nd any connectio n to an external netw ork (e.g.
the Internet) even if it is by modem. This is often a si mple task, since most
computers have just one or two network connections.
2. Decide what n etwork traffic should be allowed on each network segment.
3. Select the Settings menu item, and the System option on the popu p menu.
4. From the list of network devices, determine which device is connected to
which network segmen t you listed in Step (1). If you have one mo dem but
see two "Dial-Up Adapter" entries, one of them may be a M icrosoft Virtual
Private Network A da p ter. Usually, th e e ntry with the lo wer device number
(e.g. [0000]) is the physical device and the other is the virtual device.
5. Fo r each device:
Highlight the d e vice in the list a nd select Propertie s.
Accordi ng to the policies you d efined in Step (2) above, allow or block
the different types of network traffic.
Cho ose OK when done. Note: chang es take effect for this devic e when
you choose OK on th e Properties page. Choosing Cancel on the
System/Settings pag e does not cancel these changes. I f in d oubt, review
the settings later to confirm.
6. Choose OK to close the System/Settings dialog box.
NOTE: You must che ck S ystem Settings after add ing or rem oving
network devices.
