Clean and Optimize
Use McAfee Utilities Clean a nd O ptimize utilit ies to help you ensure
maximum performance of your computer via easy-to-use maintenance and
optimization tools.
Cleanup Wizard
Cleanup Wizard allows you to reclaim space on the hard disk by helping you
id entify files th at yo u no longer need such as duplica te files; and files that are
considered no longer us eful. Once these files are id entified, Cleanup Wizard
walks yo u through the process of either deleting the file s,compressing the f ile s
or moving the files to an other location so you c an save space on your
computer.
It scans your d isk or hard driv e f or f iles that can be deleted based on selecte d
safety levels (e.g., t em porary files and f iles int eh Recy cle Bin). A list of files is
generated and displayed for you to revie w and decide which files shou ld be
deleted, moved, compressed, etc.
Disk Tune
Disk Tune optimizes your hard disk and improves your computer’s
performance by rearranging files on you r h ard disk for maximum efficiency.
It defrag ments your Windows Sw ap File—t he f ile used by Windows to store
information temporarily so that memory can be freed for other applications. A
fragm ented Swap F ile also affects the performance of your system.
You should run Dis k Tune whenever yo ur dr ive bec omes fr agmen ted by more
than 2 o r 3 percent. Wh en you start Disk Tune, i t revi ews your drive and
recommends the t ype of defragmentation and optimization process that you
should use.
TIP: You can monitor the fragmentation levels of your hard disk using
WinGauge’s Disk Fragmentation gauge.
If you are using Window s 98, Disk Tune lets yo u use the ap p lica tion log file
tha t Windows 98 creates to determine how a pplications and their relate d files
will be op tim ally stored on your drive.
