WinGauge
WinGauge is a dynamic reporting tool that c onstantly monitors your use of
W indow s and your a p plications, to alert you to potentialproblems before the y
become serious.
Information a bo ut yo ur s ystem isdisplayed using gauges. You can s elect what
to monitor and the type of gauge to use. Most importantly, you can choose
whe n you want to be notified in the event that your spec if ied limits have been
reached.
WinGauge alerts you so that you can save your data, close p rograms, or take
other actions to prevent your system from slowing down, crashing, or
locking-up. As an added bonus , you c an also drag ap p lica tion icons a nd
folders into Win Gaug e so that the program becomes your one-stop system
monitoring and appli cati on launch pad .
The most important gauges
The following list s ummarizes the most imp orta n t gauges:
Highest Resources–The Highest Res o urces gauge m easures “system
resources”— small, critica l memory regions in Windows itself.Whe n any of
these regions fill up, your system m ay crash. You can increase your
resources by closing some applications.
Virtual Memory–The Virtual Memory gaug e measures how muc h o f your
di sk swap file is in use. The more of your swap file yo u use, th e slower y our
system will run. If your sw ap file fills up, your system may crash.
If you find that your virtual memory is frequently high, you should
consider buying and installing mo re RAM and m aking more room
available on your W indows drive.
Swap File Requests–The Swap Fil e Requests g aug e measures how often
Window s is a ccessing the swap file. The m or e frequent ly Wind ows
access es, t he less efficient your overall system.
Drive Space–The Drive Space gauge measures the amount of room left on
your drives. If a disk fills up w hile a pr ogram is r unning, your s ystem ma y
crash.
