How does VirusScan software work?
VirusScan software combines the anti-virus ind ustry’s most capable scan
engine with top-notch interface enhancements t hat give you complete access
to that engine’s power. The VirusScan graphical user interface unifies its
spe cia lized p ro g ra m comp onents, b u t wit hout sac rificing the flexibility y ou
need to fit the soft ware into your comput ing environme nt. The scan engine,
meanwhile, combines the best features of technologies that McAfee and
McAfee VirusScan research ers developed independently for mo re t han a
decade.
What comes with VirusScan software?
VirusScan software consists of several components that combine one or more
related programs, each of which play a part in defending y our computer
against viruses and other m alicious software. Th e components are:
• The VirusScan Central. This is your main entry p oint in using all of the
available components of M cAfee VirusScan. This home s c reen (see Figure
1-2) prov ide s rele va nt inf ormation such a s the last time a virus s ca n was
performed o n y our computer; what VShield settings are enabled o r
disabled and available DAT information and whe n it was crea ted.
