2. During CheckUp, the component c urrently under examination is
highlighted. Status information at the bottomof thescreenletsyou know
exactly what Che ckUp is doing.
To perform a specific CheckUp
1. If you are having a specific hardware problem, click the appropriate
componen t in t he CheckUp desktop. A pop-up menu ap pears.
2. Click t he check for the selected c omponen t. First Aid will perform a
Chec kUp on that com ponent only.
Fixing problems
W he n CheckUp is finishe d, Firs t Aid displays t he number of proble ms it
found via the CheckUp Report screen. The problems are in order of severity:
• Critical Problems. Urgent problems such as a fa iling hard dr ive or missing
software components that need to be attended to immediately.
• Potential Problems. Less serious problems that might affect your PC. For
example, a potential problem is a bad shortcut, one that no l onger pr o perly
po ints to an a pplicatio n on your PC.
• Tips & Performance Issues. Suggestions for improving the performance of
your PC . For example, a per formance t ip might s ugges t that you install
Qu ickTime if it isn’t already installed.
From t he CheckUp Report screen, y ou can:
• Fix many proble ms a u tomatic ally using Au toF ix.
• Fix problems tha t require manual fixes .
• View the problems First Aid found. If you are curious about what First Aid
found, click View to display the F ix Info s creen, which lists each problem
iden tified during the C he ckUp. From the Fix Info s creen, yo u can A utoFix
individual problems or find out addition al information about a problem.
• Cancel the Report and return to the CheckUp des ktop. Click C ancel or the
Back button to return to the CheckUp desktop. To return to the initial
CheckUp Repo rt s creen, click the Back but ton.
Using AutoFix
When C heckUp reports that your P C has problems, your best course of action
is to click AutoFix from the in itial CheckUp report sc reen. First Aid will then
attempt tofix allof theglitcheslistedin th e CheckUp Repo rt.A fter anA utoFix,
First A id mi ght report that some problems iden tified in th e CheckUp cannot
be AutoFixed: a manual fix is the solution for these problems.
