Duplex/Speed Setting
This panel function is located in the network menu
(submenu Duplex/Speed Setting).
The factory default value is Autonegotiation.
Autonegotiation means that devices on the network agree a
transmission mode, which each unit is able to handle, before
data transmission starts. By this the printer automatically
adjusts itself to maximize link performance.
Autonegotiation is the recommended setting!
If you set the Duplex/Speed parameters manually, you may
experience problems. Wrong settings can slow down the
speed of the link (worst case: communication does not occur).
Explanations:
Auto-Negotiation
A Ethernet procedure that allows devices at either end of a link
segment to advertise and negotiate modes of operation such as
the speed of the link (100 Mbit/s or 10 Mbit/s) and half- or full-
duplex operation.
Half duplex
A device can either receive or send data at a given time.
Full duplex
Capability of a device for sending and receiving data at the
same time. In the case of full duplex, collision detection is
deactivated. A full duplex capable device is able to buffer data
packets.
