6.3 Pasting the slide chips to the narrow-cutting rakes
To paste slide chips 3 to narrow-cutting rakes 2 dismantle the latter and clean its under-
side from old glue residues and soiling. The pasting surface must be bare metal.
After that, very thoroughly degrease the underside with acetone. Repeat this procedure
several times with a clean cloth.
Use the LOCTITE 3425 two-component epoxy resin to paste slide chips 3.
When doing so, note that the slide chips may only
be pasted by their darker sides as
these have been specifically prepared for this purpose by etching.
Now, you should put a rail over slide chips 3 to obtain a uniformly distributed pressure
over the entire narrow-cutting rake width. The evenness of the rail should be
0.05 mm. This evenness reflects the accuracy of the slide chips on the table surface
after the resin has cured.
At 20 °C, the curing time is about 24 hours.
Any sliding material protruding over the front edge of the narrow-cutting rake must be
filled off.
If you only replace individual chips bring them to the same height as the existing ones
have. Note that a sloping angle of approx. 1° should be kept, which corresponds to
s = 0.25 mm over chip length l. Use a try square 1 to check (refer to Figure 30).
