10.1.2 Overcutting
Overcutting occurs when the lower sheets are longer than the upper ones after cutting.

Cause Remedy
Dull knife. Replace the knife with a resharpened one.
Wrong cutting edge angle. Soft paper:
Reduce the cutting edge angle,
e. g. from 22° to 20°.
Hard paper:
Increase the cutting edge angle,
e. g. from 22° to 24°.
Excessive clamp pressure:
As the knife is getting deeper into the
paper pile, the increasing density of the
latter causes deflection of the knife.
Reduce the clamp pressure.
The cutting path is not vertical. Correct the cutting path.
