2.4 Knife drive malfunctions
The following trouble can occur in the knife drive assembly and will not be indicated
by the computer control system in the form of an error message.
• The main motor cannot be started
Remedy:
- Switch S56 for "manual cranking" (refer to the Operating Manual) under the fly-
wheel guard is locked. Unlock this switch.
- The flywheel guard is not properly closed. Turn in the lock screw until the safety
switch is closed.
- Fuses are defective. Replace the corresponding fuses.
• Cutting or clamping cannot be triggered
Remedy:
- The Main motor is OFF.
- One of the cut-release pushbuttons is defective. Change the pushbutton.
- The carbon brushes have no contact with the slip rings. Refer to "Clutch/brake
assembly maintenance".
- Refer to "Hydraulic clamping system malfunctions".
- The pedal is locked (S69).
- Y62 has no contact or is defective.
• Heavy jerking when the knife is reversing at its lower dead centre
Remedy:
- The overload expansion ring has come loose. Re-tighten the fixing bolt. Please
refer to "Knife Drive Anti-Rupture Device" in the Operating Manual.
- Very dull knives are often the cause for the overload expansion ring to respond.
Change the knife.
- The knife cut-through position has been set too low.
