2. Knife Drive
2.1 Adjusting automatic stopping
How to adjust control switches S52, S53 and S54 on the crankshaft is described in
the timing chart in the "Knife control" (control switches) section.
From the "Service" menu (I/O test), you can check the control switches for proper
functioning.
The control switches have the following functions:
S52
- Responsible for bringing up the knife from its lower dead centre (LDC).
- Rendering ineffective the light guard.
- Stopping the knife travel to the upper dead centre (UDC).
Adjust the cam of S52 so that the machine will stop at its upper dead centre, with
the cam follower of S54 coming to stop within the first third of its cam length.
S53
- Responsible for the knife down movement.
- Locking the clamp while the knife is coming down.
S54
- Checking the upper dead centre.
- Triggering an emergency stop in case S52 failed.
The gap (switching distance) between S54 and S53 shown in the chart should
be one third of a flywheel turn to half a turn.
For this purpose, turn on the clutch (refer to "Manual Cranking" in the Operating
Manual) and check the switching distance.
When the knife drive is automatically stopped the knife edge on the right-hand side
must be at least 6 mm above the clamp lower border.
If the knife beam overruns the upper dead centre (S54 is no longer actuated at the
stop position) any further cut triggering will be disabled.
The display will read the following error message: operating error.
Press the "OK" key and then the "Diagnostic" key, and the "Diagnostic" menu will read
a "knife overrun" error message.
After turning the main switch off and then back on, you can use the cut-release
pushbuttons to start the next cut.
If the knife overruns its upper dead centre again you can shift the entire cam package
in the sense of rotation and within the permissible range to achieve a slight correction
of the pre-stop position.
If such correction by shifting the cams as described above is not successful, i. e. if the
knife still keeps overrunning, check the clutch/brake combination of the knife drive
under any circumstances.
