2.2.3 Checking the bearing play
Only necessary for 115/132/168/225 machines.
The clutch must be de-energized.
When you manually push and pull the flywheel rim on top there must be no noticeable
play in the bearings.
If so, replace the antifriction bearings.
Caution:
Prior to dismantling the clutch/brake assembly, bring the knife beam to its
lowermost position as the compression springs will release and cancel their
braking effect.
2.3 Clutch/brake assembly maintenance
Check the air gap as described above once per year and use shims to correct it, if
necessary.
Keep the slip rings free of grease.
Use titanium fleece or fine-grained abrasive cloth (grain size 200 – 240) to clean and
polish the slip rings.
Ensure proper contact between the carbon brushes and the slip ring to avoid brush
sparking. Use a brush (without a metal ring) to remove carbon brush dust.
If the brake or clutch linings are heavily worn down or soiled with oil replace the arma-
ture disk.
Before installing a new armature disk use petroleum ether to clean the friction sur-
faces of the clutch and brake linings.
After installation, check the air gaps in accordance with Table 1.
Protect the asbestos-free friction linings of the armature disk from oil and grease.
Even when installing and adjusting the armature disk, be absolutely sure that your
measuring tools and your hands are free of grease.
Caution:
Prior to dismantling the clutch/brake assembly, bring the knife beam to its low-
ermost position as the compression springs will release and cancel their braking
effect.
