AssoonastheHSUsareconfiguredtoyoursatisfaction,youmustregisterthemontheHBS.
RegistrationofanHSUenablesservicetrafficbetweentheHSUandtheHBS.TheHBSkeeps
trackofregisteredHSUsbymaintaininga tableoftheirMACaddresses.RegisteredfixedHSUs
setaninternalflagsothattheycannotregistersimultaneouslytomorethanoneHBS.
Duringtheregistrationprocess,youassigntimeslotstoeachHSU.Atotalof63timeslotsare
availabletoeachHBSineachoftheuplinkanddownlinkdirections,tobedistributedamong
theHSUsinthesector.Therelativenumberoftimeslotsdeterminestherelativeamountof
serviceeachHSUwillreceive.EachHSUreceivesatleasttwotimeslots.TodisableanHSU
youmustderegisterit.(Asuspendmechanismisalsoavailable,tosuspendserviceonanHSU
foralimitedperiod.)
ForeachregisteredHSU,youcansetseparately,theuplinkanddownlinkMaximum
InformationRate(MIR)inMbpsorleaveitasUnlimited.
YoumayalsomanageanHSUConnectiontabletoenableanddisableconnectivitybetween
HSUsinasector.
HSUsmaybefixedornomadic.Thelattermaybemovearoundwithinandacrosssectors.
MobileHSUs(HMUs)mayalsomovearoundwithinandacrosssectors.Theyarecoveredin

EachnomadicHSUisallocatedtooneoffourHBSlevelslabelledA,B,CandD.Some
operatingparametersforeachlevel(suchasVLAN,MIR,QoS,timeslots,fixedrate,Spatial
Multiplexing /Diversityantennamode)canbedifferentforeachlevelallowingforbroad
prioritizationofser vicebetweendifferenttypesofnomadicunits.Thisrequiresthateach
nomadicHSUbeassignedaleveltojoinasector.
AnomadicHSUmayonlysendandreceiveser vicetrafficwhilestationary.AnomadicHSU
detectsthatitistimetoseektheanotherHBSuponsyncloss.Uponenteringandstoppingin
a
newsector,itmaytakeseveralsecondstoestablishsyncwiththesectorHBS.
ChanginganyofVLAN,MIR,QoS,fixedrate,SpatialMultiplexing/Diversityantennamodefor
oneconfiguredHSUatagivenlevel,changesallotherHSUsatthatlevel.Ifyouaddanew
HSUtoasector(by
directconnection)atagivenlevel,atsynctime,itwillacquiretheexisting
parametersforthatlevel.
Workflow
Inthischapter,weassumethatyouarefamiliarwiththegraphicaluserinterfacedescribedin
Chapter5,includingGeographiclocation.Wewillconcentratehereonsectorradiosetup
workflow.Tothisend,theinstallationwillbecarriedoutagainstablankwhitebackground.At
theendoftheprocesswewillcompletethesectorbyopeningthemaptoreflectour
Geographicpositioningdata.
