Toachievebestsectorperformance,eachHSUisallocatedseparateuplinkanddownlinktime
slots.
Downlinktr afficisfullyunderHBScontrol,sothatitcanallocateanyunuseddownlinktime
slotswhetherallocatedornottoabusylink.Thebusylinkmayoperateatanextremely

peakrates,1000%utilizationnotbeinguncommon.
Uplinktrafficisunpredictable.Again,inthecaseofabusylinkwithotherlinksrelativelyidle,
theHBSwillallocateextrauplinktimeslotstothebusylinkfromfreepoolonly.Ifallofthe
uplinktimeslotsareallocated,then
SBMwillnotoperateintheuplinkdirection.
Theallocationofuplinkanddownlinktimeslotsbecome sanetworkpolicyissue.For
example,ifalltheHSUsprovideregularinternetservice,itmightbeadvisabletogiveeach
oneminimumtimeslotsinbothdirections(subjecttothe63timeslotmaximumineach
direction)andallowtraffictodynamicallydetermine timeslotutilization.Alternatively,ifthe
HSUsareusedforbackhaul,theminimumnumber oftimeslotsineitherdirectionshouldbe
allocatedtomeetdefinedservicerequirements(suchasaSLAs).
TheRADWINManagerprovidesfacilitiestoconfigureseparateuplinkanddownlinktime
slots.Itfurthermonitorsperformance,providingtabularandgraphicutilizationstatistics.
