Stage1:PreliminarySurvey
Apreliminarysurveyisnecessarybeforevisitingpotentialinstallationsites.Asmuchdetailas
possibleshouldbeobtainedaboutthedesignatedODUinstallationsitesandthearea
betweenthem.
Toperformapreliminarysurvey:
1.Markthedesignatedinstallationsitesonatopographicmapofthearea.
2.Measurethedistancebetweenthesites;checkthatitiswithinthespecifiedrangeof
theequipment.
3.Ontheurbanmap,checkfordevelopedareassituatedbetweentheinstallationsites.
Payat tentiontotheseareaswhenperformingthephysicalsitesurvey;therema ybe
tallbuildings,RFtowers,ortransmitters,whichcouldcauseinterferencetoasector.
4.Checktheareabetweenthetwositesforobstructionssuchas:
• Highground‐hillsormountains
• Lakesorlargebodiesofwater.Waterhasareflectioneff ectonRFsignalslikeabuild‐
ing.Thistypeofreflectioncausesthereceivedamplitudetobereduced.Asaruleof
thumb,thepresenceofalarge bodyofwaterbetweensectorsitesmaydoublethe
requiredantennaheight.
