Parameters
5.10.2.1 Function
The device function within the SICK network in master/slave operating mode is specified
via the Function parameter.
• S
TAND ALONE: The reading device is not integrated into a SICK network and operates as a
single device station in the system. The device communicates directly with the host.
• S
LAVE: As a slave, the reading device receives trigger signals from the master for the start
and end of the reading process. The slave sends the reading result to the master.
• M
ASTER: As a master, the reading device distributes trigger signals to the slaves for the
start and end of the reading process. The master receives the trigger signals directly from a
photoelectric switch or in series via the PLC. Once it receives the reading results from the
slaves, the master sends these to the PLC in accordance with the configured output format.
5.10.2.2 Slave list
The slave's device IDs that are connected to the master device are entered via the Slave list
parameter. The device IDs are separated by commas. Up to 10 slaves can be entered for
one master.
The input field is highlighted in red if the input is invalid.
5.10.3 Multiplexer/Server
In the Multiplexer/Server group, the device is configured as a SICK network participant in
a multiplexer/server operating mode. A maximum of 31 devices can be connected to a mul-
tiplexer. The servers receive trigger signals for the start and end of the reading process via
their respective photoelectric switches which are connected to the digital input (sensor 1).
This allows them to be distributed in a system at different positions. The servers transmit
the reading results to the multiplexer, which forwards them to the PLC in a configured out-
put format along with the server's device ID. As the servers have their own trigger sources
and operate independently of each other, the reading results are processed and forwarded
in the multiplexer in the sequence in which they are entered.
In the multiplexer/server operating mode, a SICK network of 32 reading devices can be ma-
naged without auxiliary devices. The operating mode is typically inserted in systems that
have a large distribution of reading devices which function independently of each other.
For additional information see the F1 help.
Wizard Pressing the S
TART WIZARD button launches a dialog box via which the device can be confi-
gured in full as a SICK network participant in the multiplexer/server operating mode. The
wizard provides the parameters required for configuring the CAN interface, device network
functions, output format, output control, and object trigger control. The values entered into
the wizard are accepted into the relevant parameter groups and tabs once the configuration
is complete.
