4.4.5 EtherNet/IP
EtherNet/IP
E
therNet/IP™ (EtherNet Industrial Protocol) is an Ethernet-based network used in indus‐
trial automation.
EtherNet/IP™ implements the CIP™ (Common Industrial Protocol) based on the Ether‐
net and TCP/IP protocol family.
EtherNet/IP™ with the CIP Safety™ protocol extension is also suitable for safety-related
data communication.
Complementary information
T
he connection can also be used for configuration, diagnostics, and data output.

4.4.6 Restart interlock
Overview
D
epending on the regulations which apply at the place of installation, a restart interlock
may be required.
The restart interlock prevents the machine from automatically starting up, for example
after a protective device has responded while the machine is operating or after chang‐
ing the machine’s operating mode.
First, the operator must press a reset pushbutton to return the protective device to
monitoring status. Then, in a second step, the operator can restart the machine.
Important information
DANGER
H
azard due to lack of effectiveness of the protective device
The dangerous state may not be stopped in the event of non-compliance.
If a protective field is interrupted, the safety output switches to the OFF state for at
least 80ms, even if the interruption is shorter than that time. With a safety output
via network, it can happen that the controller does not detect the OFF state in the
event of a very short protective field interruption, e.g. if the network time expectation is
configured to be greater than 80ms.
1)
The internal restart interlock of the safety laser scanner must be used to end the
dangerous state.
►
If the network time expectation is longer than 80ms, use the internal restart
interlock of the safety laser scanner.
Prerequisites
•
T
he control switch for resetting the restart interlock (reset button) is mounted
outside the hazardous area.
•
Persons within the hazardous area cannot operate the reset button.
•
Any person operating the control switch can view the entire hazardous area.
Internal restart interlock
Eac
h safety output of the safety laser scanner is equipped with a configurable internal
restart interlock.
1)
T
he network expectation time is sometimes referred to as the connection reaction time limit.
