7.7 Updating the interface module firmware

Updating the firmware online (via networks)
Introduction
To update the firmware of the IM 154-4 PN High Feature (6ES7154-4AB10-0AB0), you
require files (*.UPD) containing the latest FW version.
Note
The online update of firmware pertains only to the IM
154-4 PN High Feature interface
module. When an online firmware update is performed, other modules in the station assume
the configured substitute value behavior or become de
-energized.
● Online firmware updates can be performed in
STEP 7
V5.4 + SP2 or higher.
● The interface module of the station to be updated must be accessible online.
● The files containing the current firmware versions must be available in the file system of
your programming device or PC. A folder may contain only the files of one firmware
version.
Performing a firmware update
1. Run
STEP 7
and switch to HW Config.
2. Open the station containing the IM 154-4 PN High Feature you want to update.
3. Select the IM 154-4 PN High Feature.
4. Select the menu command
.
5. In the
dialog, select the path to the firmware update files (*.UPD) using
the
button.
6. After you selected a file, the information in the lower fields of the
dialog
box shows you the suitable module and firmware version for the file.
7. Click the
button.
STEP 7
checks whether the selected file can be interpreted by the
IM 154-4 PN High Feature and, if so, downloads the file to the interface module. If this
requires changing the operating state of the IM 154-4 PN High Feature, you will be asked
to perform these actions in the relevant dialog boxes. The IM 154-4 PN High Feature then
automatically updates the firmware.
8. Use
STEP 7
(Read CPU diagnostics buffer) to check whether the IM 154-4 PN High
Feature starts up with the new firmware. You can read out the current firmware version in
the module status of the IM 154-4 PN High Feature.
