In BATCH flexible the structure of a recipe is defined by the arrangement of
the automation functions. A recipe is a set of rules for manufacturing a
product by means of a particular process. It describes what is needed and
what must be done to execute the process. It exists in various forms (here:
apparatus recipes and control recipes).

An SFC (Sequential Function Chart) is a suitable way of displaying
(procedural description) the entire set of process instructions with sequential
and parallel steps.
A step is the smallest functional unit of an SFC. In BATCH flexible a step is
actually an automation function (AF).
Step-by-step control is an operating mode with these switching modes:
S SSMB (step-by-step control with operator control)
Procedural control runs under operator control.
S SSMT (step-by-step control with transition)
Procedural control runs under process control.
S SSMTOB (step-by-step control with transition or operator control)
Procedural control runs under process controlor is operator-controlled.
S SSMTOB (step-by-step control with transition and operator control)
Procedural control runs under process controland is operator-controlled.
Structure elements consist of an arrangement of basic elements. Structural
elements include: ’sequence’, ’parallel branch’, ’alternative branch’ and
’loop.
A substructure facilitates an improved overview of the recipe.
$ variables are used for the ’later’ adaption of a recipe to external
circumstances. This means that recipe parameters can still be influenced
when a batch is created.
