Lift

sure the valve stem deflection in two directions, "X" and "

the
dial gauge as shown. If
the
deflection exceeds the service limit, determine whether the
valve
or
the guide should be replaced with a new one.

Measure the valve stem outside diameter using the micrometer.
If the outside diameter is not within the specified value, replace
the valve with a new one. If
the
valve stem outside diameter is
within specification, but the valve stem deflection is not, replace
the valve guide with a new one. After replacing the valve or
va
lve guide, check the deflection.
