RESIDENT DIAGNOSTICS
The Resident Diagnostics are executed automatically each time the
AT&T Personal Computer 6300 is powered up or reset. These
programs reside in the Motherboard ROMs and test the basic
functionality of the main modules within the AT&T Personal
Computer 6300. In order to execute these programs, the 8284
8-MHz clock generator, the LS244 clock driver, the 8288 bus
controller, and a minimal subset of the CPUs (8086) instruction set
must be working. The two ROMs, as well as the data address and
control buses to the ROMs, must be functioning. The Display must
also be working for error reporting purposes.
It is recommended that service personnel go through the Resident
Diagnostics and then the Customer Test Diagnostics each time the
AT&T Personal Computer 6300 is serviced or an option is added to
it. The Resident Diagnostics perform short checks on the
following modules:
• Motherboard
• Mini-Floppy Disk (MFD) Unit
• Hard Disk Unit (HDU)
• Small Expansion Box HDU.
