External Storage Device
The NAS i s de si g n e d w i t h ext e rn a l p o rts to s upport eSATA drives, USB drives, and
thumb dr ive s for extended storage. From the
Exter nal Devic e > Exte r nal Stor a ge
Device
window, you can perform numerous functions on these external devices
such as forma tting the dev ic e, removing the disk partition, and remov ing the
device from the NAS.
NOTE
External devices are accessible to everyone who has network access to the NAS.
Therefore, all use rs on the NAS can read and write data to these devices.

CAUTION
Do not unplug an external device when it is in use to protect it and the data on it.
!
CAUTION
Formatting or removing a disk partition from an external device will delete all data
from the external device.
To format an external device:
STEP 1
Connect an external device to the NAS.
STEP 2
Choose
External Device > External Storage Device
from the Navigation menu.
The
Exte rnal S to ra g e Dev ic e
window opens.
STEP 3
Select the external storage device from the window.
