Solving Display Problems

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Characters are dim. Brightness controls
need adjusting.
Press Fn+F10
,
then press
the right or left cursor
keys to adjust brightness.
Computer screen is in
direct light.
Tilt the display or move
the computer.
Screen is blank. Screen save was
initiated after the
screen save timeout
(period of inactivity).
Press any key or click
the mouse.
You initiated
QuickLock/
QuickBlank.
Enter your power-on
password to exit
QuickLock/QuickBlank.
Brightness needs
adjusting.
Press Fn+F10
,
then press
the right or left cursor
keys to adjust brightness.
. Screen has
overheated.
If computer is in direct
sunlight, move it and
allow it to cool off.
Screen is blank and
the power/suspend
light is blinking.
System is in Suspend. Press the suspend
button to exit Suspend.
Enter your power-on
password if prompted.
Screen is blank, the
power/suspend light
and the battery
power light or the
MultiBay drive light
are blinking.
System has entered a
critical low-battery
condition.
Save your work, then
immediately connect the
computer to an external
power source or replace
the battery pack.
Computer screen is
blank and the
external monitor
displays information.
Display is switched to
the external monitor.
Press Fn+F4 to switch to
the computer display.
External monitor
does not
display information.
External monitor was
connected after
computer was
turned on.
Press Fn+F4 to switch to
the external monitor.
The external monitor
signal cable or power
cord is not
properly connected.
Verify that the cables are
properly connected.
