5-4 Using Battery Packs

Using Battery Meter
The battery meter feature enables you to place an informative icon
in the system tray on the Windows taskbar. You can then use the
icon to view some power information at a glance or to view
additional battery information by using the mouse cursor or a
single, right, or double click.
To display the battery meter icon, click Start

double-click the Power icon

Power tab. Check Show
Battery Meter on the Taskbar, then click OK to save your
preference and close Power Properties.
If you are running Windows 95, the icon that appears in the
system tray on the taskbar displays some information by its
appearance, as described in the following table.
Battery Meter Icon
Appearance Condition Represented
Power cord plug The computer is running on
external power.
Full battery The computer is running on a
battery pack and is in a
full
battery
condition. The battery
pack is at or near a full charge.
Half-full battery The computer is running on a
battery pack and is in a
half-
battery
condition. The battery
pack has partially discharged
but has not reached a low-
battery condition.
Empty battery The computer is running on a
battery pack and is in a
low-
battery
or a
critical low-battery
condition. Refer to “Identifying
and Resolving a Low-Battery
Condition” in this chapter.
