6.4 AC Choke Connections
The AC input choke carries out several functions in the VACON
®
NX 6- and 12-pulse AC drive. The AC choke is needed as an essential
component for motor control. It protects the input and DC-link components against abrupt changes of current and voltage as well
as to function as a protection against harmonics.
The VACON
®
NXP (6- and 12-pulse) AC drive is equipped with one or more AC chokes. The AC chokes have two inductance levels to
optimize the functionality at different supply voltages. In the installation phase, the wiring of the AC chokes must be checked and
changed if needed (not for FR8 and FR9).
The input is always connected to terminal #1 (see
Illustration 25). Do not change the connection. The output of the AC choke must
be connected to terminal #2 or #3 (see Illustration 25) as listed in Table 17. The terminals are marked with inductance values and
applicable voltage.
In units FR10 to FR12, the connection is changed by moving the cable to the appropriate terminals. In FR13/14, the bridges of the
busbar connection must be moved according to the settings shown in Table 17.
N O T I C E
RISK OF DAMAGE DUE TO INCONSISTENT AC CHOKE INSTALLATION
In units with two or more parallel AC chokes (some FR11 and all FR12 and FR13), all AC chokes have to be wired in the same way.
If AC chokes are wired differently, the AC drive can be damaged.
Always wire all AC chokes in the same way.
