Example AC output power cable sizes
Always calculate the cable sizes according to the local rules and conditions,
for more information see AC connection on page 69.
As an example, AC cable size calculation is given below. It is based on the inverter
nominal output current and the current-carrying capacities and correction factors of IEC
60364. 90
°C cables, ground cabling (installation method D2) and a maximum
temperature of 40
°C in the ground are assumed (typically the conditions are not this
severe). The cables must have sufficient cooling distances, with a maximum of four cables
touching each other. Different assumptions can cause considerably different results.
AC output cable sizes in the USA (according to NEC 2017)
As an example, AC cable size calculation is given below. It is based on the inverter
nominal output current and the current-carrying capacities and correction factors of
NEC 2017. 90
°C cables, ground cabling with less than 10% of the total length inside the
inverter and a maximum temperature of 40
°C in the ground are assumed (typically the
conditions are not this severe). The cables must have sufficient cooling distances, with a
maximum of six cables touching each other. Different assumptions can cause
considerably different results.
1) The standard delivery has solid conduit plates in the cabling sections instead of preassembled cable lead-
throughs. The conduit assembly is customized in the field according to the actual cabling. The used cable
conduits must provide the same degree of protection as the inverter and the installation must be done so that
the base and cabling section fulfill this requirement.
