vapour, which collects above the surface of the liquid water in the humidifier, to pass into the
sample stream. In the total sulfur humidifier, sample gas comes into direct contact with the
surface of the liquid in the humidifier, and is humidified by carrying away the water vapour
that collects above the surface of the liquid.
2.8.3 Rotameter
The rotameter is a device that controls the flow rate through the system. It is mounted on the
upper access door on the chassis. The standard rotameter on the chassis is shown in Figure
2-12. The knob on the bottom of the rotameter is used to control the flow of the sample gas
through the system, and should be set so that the rotameter indicates a flow of approximately
2.0.
In ProTech903 units that have the total sulfur option, the flow is controlled by rotameters for
the hydrogen gas and sample gas in the sample conditioning system, and so the chassis
rotameter does not have a flow control knob it only indicates the flow of gas in this case.
