This chapter summarizes the operation of the TympStar Version 1 and TympStar
Version 2 Middle-ear Analyzers. A brief introduction to the TympStar con-
trols, menus and LCD screens will be followed by summarized test procedures
for each instrument. Please refer to the Reference Instruction Manuals for
more detailed operating instructions.
NOTE
Most generic LCD screen and menu examples use TympStar Version 2

. However, the concepts and processes described apply equally
well to both instruments.
Front panel controls
Front panel controls consist of a combination of “hardkeys” with fixed functions that
do not change, and “softkeys” located under the LCD that change to support the
changing requirements of a test session. A rotary pressure control is provided to
change or fine-tune pressure within the ear canal.
