GL16 Preventive Maintenance
4-7
Oil Roll Bearing Pivots
The roll bearing pivots for the compression roll,
doffer roll, and return ribbon guide assembly roll
(Figure 4-6) in each end frame need to be oiled
weekly to allow the bearings to pivot smoothly.
1. Turn the power OFF at the main discon-
nect switch.
2. Open both of the end frame doors.
3. Use a clean cloth to remove any lint or
buildup from each of the bearings and
pivots.
4. Add a few drops of a good quality SAE
90 grade oil to each of the pivots.
5. Manually raise and lower the compres-
sion roll, doffer roll, and the return ribbon
guide assembly roll to lubricate the piv-
ots.
6. Wipe off any excess oil from each of the
pivots.
7. Close and secure the end frame doors.
To use the grease gun:
1. Turn the power OFF at the main discon-
nect switch.
2. Open both of the end frame doors.
3. Wipe old lubricant off the bearings.
4. Insert the grease gun nozzle firmly onto
the lubrication fitting.
5. Add lubricant slowly, one stroke at a time,
until a slight bead of lubricant forms at
the seal—normally two full strokes.
CAUTION
Over-lubrication will destroy
the bearing seals and cause
premature failure.
6. Wipe off any excess grease immediately.
CAUTION
Failure to wipe off excess
lubricant will cause lint to
adhere to the bearings and
may cause premature failure.
7. Close and secure the end frame doors.
Perform only when the unit is OFF
(with power disconnected) and COOL.
