GL16 Operating Principles
5-5
5.2 Mechanical System
Components that make up the mechanical
system are located in the areas listed below:
Right End Frame
Ironing Section
Right End Frame
The right end frame cover panel is opened by
turning the quarter-turn fasteners.
Mechanical Drive System—Type F and R
Units
The mechanical drive system consists of the
parts listed below (Figure 5-3):
Drive motor (A)
Gear reducer (B)
Idler sprocket (C)
Drive chain (D)
Compression Roll Tension Spring (E)
The drive motor (A) provides power to the
rotating components of the unit. A shaft from the
drive motor extends directly into the gear reducer
(B).
The output shaft of the gear reducer has a
sprocket, which drives the chain. The drive chain
(D) is turned by the gear reducer sprocket (C)
and powers the drive rolls.
There is a spring tensioned idler sprocket, which
tensions the drive chain in the right end frame.
The spring tension is adjustable.
The tension spring (E) attached to the
compression roll is adjustable. This helps keep
the compression roll firmly in place.
Delivery Drive System—Type R Unit
The Type R Unit delivery drive system allows
product delivery to the front or rear of the unit.
The delivery drive system consists of the parts
listed below (Figure 5-3):
Delivery pulley (F)
Delivery drive belt (G)
Delivery gear reducer (H)
Delivery drive motor (I)
The delivery drive motor (I) powers the gear
reducer (H), which turns the delivery drive belt
(G). This belt turns the delivery pulley (F)
connected to the delivery drive roll.
