Troubleshooting by symptom
Use this information to find solutions to problems that have identifiable symptoms.
To use the symptom-based troubleshooting information in this section, complete the following steps:
1. Check the event log of Lenovo XClarity Controller and follow the suggested actions to resolve any event
codes.

“Event logs” on page 197.
2. Review this section to find the symptoms that you are experiencing and follow the suggested actions to
resolve the issue.
3. If the problem persists, contact support (see
“Contacting Support” on page 237).
Fan board problems
Use this information to resolve issues related to the fan board.
To resolve the problem, do the following:
1. Make sure that all the cables of the fan board are securely connected to the system board.
2. Make sure that all fans are properly inserted into the fan board.
3. Power on the server and then go to event log to check the fan status.
4. If the fan module in any slots shows error, update the firmware.
5. If the problem persists after firmware update, swap the defective fan with a good one.
6. If the fan error follows with a specific fan module after swapping, replace the fan module.
7. If the fan error follows with a specific fan slot after swapping, replace the fan board.
8. If the fan error follows with a specific fan cable after swapping, replace the fan cable.
Hard disk drive problems
Use this information to resolve issues related to the hard disk drives.

Server cannot recognize a hard drive
Complete the following steps until the problem is solved.
1. Observe the associated yellow hard disk drive status LED. If the LED is lit, it indicates a drive fault.
2. If the status LED is lit, remove the drive from the bay, wait 45 seconds, and reinsert the drive, making
sure that the drive assembly connects to the hard disk drive backplane.
3. Observe the associated green hard disk drive activity LED and the yellow status LED and perform
corresponding operations in different situations:
