sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with
an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.

Procedure
Step 1. Make preparation for the task.
a. Remove the top cover. See
“Remove the top cover” on page 148.
b. If your server comes with an air baffle, remove it first. See
“Remove the air baffle” on page 50.
c. Remove system fans. See
“Remove a system fan” on page 142.
d. Remove the system fan cage. See
“Remove the system fan cage” on page 146.
e. (Optional) If your server comes with a T-shape heat sink, remove it first. See
“Remove a heat
sink” on page 104

f. Remove the system board assembly out of chassis. See
“Remove the system I/O board or
processor board” on page 134
.
g. Disconnect fan power and fan sideband cables from the fan board. See
“Connections between
the processor board and fan board” on page 162
.
h. Move or disconnect other cables that go right over the fan board.
Step 2. Remove the fan board.

Gently hold and lift the fan board from the system board tray.
After you finish
• If you are replacing the fan board, install a new fan board. See
