9 Using the guesser function
Applicable for Advanced CT Test (and Advanced MR Test) mode only.
This chapter provides a detailed description how to run a CT test using the guesser function of
CT Analyzer. Follow the sections 9.2 to 9.5 in the given order.
For reasons of simplicity, the following example only considers a straight forward Advanced CT test
without performing a burden test, a primary winding resistance measurement or a residual
magnetism measurement.
When working with CT Analyzer, always observe the safety rules given in section 3.1 on page 23 and
the safety instructions given in chapter 1 "Safety instructions" on page 9.
WARNING
Death or severe injury caused by high voltage or current possible
As long as the red LED on the CT Analyzer test set is flashing, the output is active and
lethal voltages can occur due to the high energy stored in external inductors.
► Do not touch the equipment under test or the measurement leads while the red LED
on CT Analyzer is flashing.
► Never connect or disconnect measurement leads while the red LED on CT Analyzer is
flashing.

Accidentally mixing up primary and secondary windings can cause life-threatening
voltages and/or destroy the connected CT or CT Analyzer.
► Always make sure that the CT Analyzer output is connected to the correct side of the
current transformer according to the wiring instructions given in sections 3.4 to 3.5.
WARNING
Death or severe injury caused by high voltage or current possible
Feeding test voltage to a CT can cause life-threatening voltages on other taps and/or
cores of the CT.
► Do not touch other taps or windings of the CT during the test.
► Make sure that no other windings of the CT are open.
► If possible, use the optional CT SB2 switch box for testing multi-ratio CTs. CT Analyzer
then automatically reduces the test voltage in a way that the maximum possible voltage
within the measurement setup (i.e., the voltage occurring at the tap combination with
the highest ratio) is limited to 200V.
