6.10 PAPER EXIT UNIT
Drive
The main motor drives the paper exit roller [C] via the fusing unit gears. When the
rear door is closed, the topmost gear of the fusing unit and the rearmost gear [F] of
the paper exit unit engage with each other. The paper exit roller turns when the
fusing clutch is energized and is providing rotational drive to the fusing unit
( 6.9.2).
Paper Exit Sensor
A paper feeler [D] located at the far end of the paper exit unit functions as a photo-
interrupter. When no paper is in the paper exit unit, the interrupter blocks (actuates)
the paper exit sensor [E] located on the right end of the paper exit unit. When the
paper is in the paper exit unit, the paper pushes against the paper feeler. The right
end of the feeler (interrupter) unblocks (de-actuates) the paper exit sensor.
Paper Exit Overflow Sensor
A paper feeler [B] located at the front end of the paper exit unit also functions as a
photo-interrupter. The interrupter blocks (actuates) the paper overflow sensor [A]
located on the left end of the paper exit unit. Should the paper stack in the paper
exit tray become too high, the left end of the feeler (interrupter) unblocks (de-
actuates) the paper overflow sensor and a message is displayed.
