6.1 Tasks of batch planning
The batch planning application is an optional BATCH flexible software
package. Within this application you can create and modify batches and
production orders as objects, and define the resources and the time sequence
in which batches run. The aim is to achieve an optimum level of equipment
utilization and production control.

flexible application
With batch planning you can plan batches in BATCH flexible without having
to release them straightaway for production, and also specify the temporal
sequence in which multiple batches are to run. These as yet not released
batches are what batch planning works with.
Batches can be derived from production orders or input directly. Production
orders can either be taken over from a production planning system (PPS) or
input directly with the aid of batch planning.
Batch planning allows you to specify the processing sequence of planned
batches by means of the order in which they are released. All released
batches are presented to batch control in the sequence in which they were
released. Batch control starts these batches once the apparatuses required at
the start of the recipe are free, depending on the starting mode selected –
either automatically or by manual input by the operator (see Chapter 5).
Batch planning manages and monitors the occupancy times of the
apparatuses which are required for processing the planned batches. You will
be informed about possible conflicts which may occur if several batches
request an apparatus simultaneously and the system will provide you with
help in remedying these conflicts.
To specify a definite execution sequence for batches you can chain
(concatenate) batches.
