Troubleshooting 30-1
Chapter 30
Troubleshooting
This chapter covers potential problems and possible remedies. After each problem description, some
steps are provided to help you to diagnose and to solve the problem.
30.1 DSL LED(s)
A DSL LED is not on.
Table 30-1 Troubleshooting the DSL LED(s)
STEPS CORRECTIVE ACTION
1 For the ALC1024 and SLC1024, make sure the DSL port is enabled (refer to the enabling DSL ports
sections in the ALC1024 Specific Commands and the SLC1024 Specific Commands chapters).
For the VLC1012, make sure the DSL port is enabled in SMT menu 6. Use SMT menu 6.1 to enable
the DSL port if it is disabled. Alternatively, refer to the vdsl active and vdsl reset commands in the
VDSL-Related Commands chapter.
2 Connect a DSL modem directly to the DSL port of the line card using a different telephone wire.
If the LED turns on, go to step 4.
3 For the ALC1024 and SLC1024, check to see that the settings in the DSL modem or router match
those of the DSL port (refer to the ALC1024 Specific Commands and the SLC1024 Specific
Commands chapters).
If the DSL LED stays off, there may be a problem with the port. Contact the distributor.
4 Take the DSL modem to the subscriber’s location.
If the DSL LED stays off, check for a problem with the telephone wiring that connects to the
subscriber.
30.2 Data Transmission
The DSL LED is on, but data cannot be transmitted.

STEPS CORRECTIVE ACTION
1 For the ALC1024 and SLC1024, check to see that the VPI/VCI settings in the DSL modem or router
match those of the line card (refer to the ALC1024 Specific Commands and the SLC1024 Specific
Commands chapters).
Also, make sure that the DSL modem or router is using RFC 1483 encapsulation, bridge mode and
LLC- based multiplexing.
2 Make sure that the line card’s IP settings are configured properly.
For the ALC1024 and SLC1024, refer to the IP Commands chapter.
For the VLC1024, check SMT menu 3.
