Nose weight
Itisrecommendedthatthenoseweightshould
be varied to nd the optimum for towing
dependent upon the actual laden weight of
thecaravan. Experiencehas shownthat the
nose weight should be approximately 7% of
theactualladenweight(i.e. between 50 and
100kg). However, this maybelimitedbythe
towingvehicleorcaravanmanufacturer’slimit
noseweight.Checkwiththecarandcaravan
handbook,orconsultyourretailer.Theupper
limitforthecaravancouplingheadis100kg.
Hitching Up
Before hitching up the vehicle always check
thefollowing:
1.Allwheelboltsaretightenedtothecorrect
torque. For the alloy wheels tted to
the Unicorn range the bolts should be
tightened to a torque 130Nm (Newton
metres).Forthesteelsparewheelsupplied
withthecaravanthewheelboltsshouldbe
tightenedto120Nm.
2. Inspect all wheels and tyres for signs of
deteriorationordamage.
3. Tyrepressuresarecorrectaccordingtothe
servicehandbook(remembertocheckthe
spareaswell.
4. Ensure all loose articles are stowed
securely.
•Do not store heavy items in roof lockers.
Televisions and other heavy items must
always be secured at oor level when
towing.
5. Alllockersandcupboarddoorsareclosed
andsecured.
6. Allbunksaresecure.
7. All rooights,extractor fansand sunroofs
areclosedandsecured.
8. Tablesaresecuredintheirtransitposition.
9. Fridgeison12voperationandthedoorlock
isset(ifrequired).
10.All windows are fully closed and latched.
Nevertowwithwindowsonnightsetting.
11. Gas cylinders are correctly positioned,
securedandturnedoff,thegasboxisshut
andlocked.
•Ensure no loose items are stored in the
gas box and it is not overstuffed with
equipment, as this may cause impact
damagetotheinsideofthepanel.
12.Batterystrapisconnectedandthebattery
issecure.
13.All external doors, aps and ventilation
ducts are closed and secure with their
relevantcoversinplace.
•Before commencing any journey always
ensure that the rooights are closed and
bothhandlesaresecurelyfastened.
•Allgasappliancesandthegasbottlesmust
beturnedoffwhiletowing
•It is recommended that a minimum of 2
peopleworktogetherwhenhitchingupthe
caravantothetowvehicle.
