Instructions for electricity supply - low
voltage (230 v)
On arrival at caravan site
!
Beforeconnectingthecaravan
installationtothemainssupply:
•Check that the mains supply is
suitable for your installation and
appliances, e.g. whether it is AC or
DC and whether it is at the correct
voltage,frequencyandpolarity.
•Check that your installations will
be properly earthed. Never accept a
supply from a socket outlet or plug
havingonlytwopins,orfromalighting
outlet.
•Check that any residual current
device (RCD)or (earth leakage circuit
breaker) in the mains supply to the
caravanhasbeentestedwithinthelast
month.Afterconnectiontositesupply,
testagain.
• Makesurethattheswitchatthesitesupply
pointisoff.
• Make sure that the caravan RCD unit is
switchedoff.
• Removeanycoverfromtheelectricityinlet
provided on the caravan, and insert the
connectorofthesupplyexiblecable.
• Removeanycover fromthe socket outlet
provided at the site supply point, and
connect the plug at the other end of the
supplyexiblecabletothis.Switchonthe
mainswitchatthesitesupplypoint.
• SwitchonthecaravanRCDunit.
In case of doubt, consult the site owner or
theiragent.
On leaving caravan site
• Firstswitchoffthesitesupply.
• SwitchoffthecaravanRCDunit.
• Thendisconnectthepitchlead.
• Replace the cover of the socketoutlet at
the site supply point. It is dangerous to
leave the supply socketor supply exible
cablelive.
In case of difculty consult an approved
electrical installation contractor (which may
bethelocalelectricityboard).Itisdangerous
to attempt modications and additions
yourself.

Lamp-holderplugs(bayonet-cap
adapters)shouldnotinany
circumstancesbeused.
Every 12 months, the caravan electrical
installation should be inspected and tested
and a report on its condition obtained as
prescribed in the Regulations for Electrical
Installations, published by the Institute of
ElectricalEngineers.
Generators
• Switch off all appliances, the miniature
circuit breakers and the residual current
device.
• Startthegeneratorandallowtorunfora
fewminutestostabilise.
• Connectthecaravantothegenerator.
• Switchon16ampminiaturecircuitbreaker.
• Switchontheresidualcurrentdevice.
• Switchonthefridge(230vphase)orplugin
a230vlighttooneofthe13ampsockets.
Thisistoprovidealoadonthegeneratorand
helpremoveany“spikes”inthesupplywhich
candamagethechargerunit.
•Switch on the 5 amp miniature circuit
breaker and any other appliances you
require.

Itisalwaysadvisabletohaveatleast
oneothermainsapplianceswitched
onwiththechargerunittominimise
thechanceofdamagetoit.
Donotconnectthe12voutputofthegenerator
tothebatteryterminals. TheACripple must
notexceed10%.
Overseas Connections
Connectiontoamainsvoltage
supplyoverseasrequiresparticular
attention.
Caremustbetakenwhenconnectingsupplies
abroad since the supplies can be of reverse
polarity.
The signicance of reverse polarity is that
whenequipmentisswitchedoffitmaynotbe
electricallyisolated.
