Hillrom Progressa+ ICU Hospital Bed
The Hillrom Progressa+ ICU Hospital Bed (Product No. P7501) is designed for use in healthcare environments, including acute care, critical care, step-down/progressive care, medical/surgical, high acuity sub-acute care, post-anesthesia care units (PACU), and emergency departments (ED). It is intended to treat or prevent pulmonary or other complications associated with immobility, treat or prevent pressure ulcers, or for any other use where medical benefits may be derived from Continuous Lateral Rotation Therapy or Percussion/Vibration Therapy. The bed provides patient support and is suitable for a broad patient population as determined by the caregiver or institution.
Intended Use and Patient Range
The bed is intended for use by healthcare employees trained in its operation, possessing the physical strength and cognitive skills to operate and control the product. Certain controls and features may be used by patients and family members after appropriate orientation by the caregiver. The intended patient range is 70 to 500 lb (32 to 227 kg) and 59" to 74" (150 to 188 cm).
Contraindications:
- Use of active air therapy surfaces (mattresses) with patients with unstable spinal cord injury could cause serious injury.
- Use of continuous lateral rotation therapy is contraindicated for patients with cervical or skeletal traction.
- Do not use the product outside of the specified patient range to prevent patient entrapment, asphyxiation, or skin breakdown.
Key Features and Controls
The Progressa+ Bed offers a comprehensive suite of features and controls for both caregivers and patients:
Caregiver Siderail Controls
Located on the outboard side of the siderails, these controls manage bed articulation.
- Bed Up/Down: Adjusts bed height from a low position for patient exit to a high position for examination. The bed motion slows down before reaching the lowest position, and the "Bed Not in Low position indicator" on the intermediate siderail control panel will turn off, while the GCI bed position indicator turns green.
- Head Up/Down: Adjusts the head section to specific angles, visible on the Line-of-Site Angle Indicators on the siderails or the GCI screen.
- Auto Contour Feature: When the Head Up control is pressed, the knee section automatically raises to a maximum of 20°. When the head section is lowered, the knee section returns to a flat position, reducing patient migration.
- Knee Up/Down: Adjusts the knee section.
- Foot Elevate (Foot Up/Down): Changes the foot section angle. The Foot Up control also operates the Lower Leg Elevation (Vascular Position), raising the legs in combination with Trendelenburg and head section movement.
- FlexAfoot Feature (Foot Extend/Retract): Adjusts the bed length by retracting the foot section up to 10" (25 cm) to customize for patient height.
- Trendelenburg/Reverse Trendelenburg: Allows for 13° Trendelenburg and 18° (or 20° with Chair Egress) Reverse Trendelenburg at any bed height.
- Boost Position System: A one-button control that levels the legs and head and puts the bed into Trendelenburg, aiding patient repositioning toward the head end.
- Chair Positions:
- Dining Chair Position: Places the patient in a customized semi-seated position.
- FullChair Position: (Available on beds with Chair Egress) Places the patient in a fully seated position without removing them from the bed.
- Chair Egress Position: Facilitates patient exit from the foot end by tilting the bed forward and lowering it to the lowest height, retracting the foot section, and deflating air surfaces.
- Bed Flat Control: Returns the patient deck to a level position from any articulated position.
- SideCom Communication System: Provides Nurse Call and entertainment features, with a speaker/microphone on the inside of both head siderails.
- P-Max Inflate (Siderail Method): Maximizes mattress firmness for patient transfers and repositioning; times out after 30 minutes.
- Side Exit Assist: Inflates the seat section of the surface to assist patient side exit; times out after 30 minutes.
- Lockout Controls: Disables bed articulation functions to prevent unauthorized movement. Emergency CPR is not locked out.
Graphical Caregiver Interface (GCI) Controls
The GCI screen, located on the intermediate siderail, provides visual information and controls:
- Bed Exit Alert: Three levels of sensitivity (Patient Position, Exiting, Out of Bed) to monitor patient movement and exit. Can be silenced temporarily or turned off.
- Head Angle Alert: Sets an alert if the head section is lowered below 30° or 45°.
- Scale: Weighs the patient, calculates BMI, views weight history, and allows for adding/removing items.
- Scale Specifications: Accuracy of 2.2 lb (1 kg) or 1% of patient weight (whichever is greater), repeatability of 2.2 lb (1 kg) or 1% of patient weight. Maximum scale capacity is 551 lb (250 kg); maximum patient weight is 500 lb (227 kg).
- NAWI Compliant (EN 45501) Scale: Features a magnifying glass icon for 0.1 kg increments for 5 seconds (Magnification Mode).
- Settings/Preferences: Manages patient data, language, time/date, software updates, and WiFi connectivity.
- Surface Information: Adjusts Progressa+ air surface settings (P-Max/Max-Inflate, Turn Assist, Alternating Low Pressure (ALP), Seat Deflate, Opti-Rest, Patient Comfort).
- Pulmonary Therapies (Accelerate Surface only):
- Rotation Therapy: Provides continuous lateral rotation therapy (CLRT) to aid in pulmonary complications. Customizable turn percentage and pause times.
- Percussion and Vibration Therapy: Can be done separately or together, with adjustable frequency (1-5 beats/second for percussion, 5-25 beats/second for vibration), intensity (Low-Med-High), and duration (5-30 minutes).
Patient Controls
Located on the patient side of the intermediate siderail, these controls allow patients to adjust:
- Nurse Call: Calls the nurse station with visual and audible indicators.
- Head Up/Down Control: Raises or lowers the head section (restricted to 55° maximum elevation).
- Knee Up/Down Control: Raises or lowers the knee section.
- Room Light, Reading Light, Television, Radio, Television Channel Up/Down Control: Entertainment and environmental controls.
Bed Frame Features
- Point-of-Care Brake and Steer System: Pedals at the foot and head ends for brake, neutral, and steer positions.
- Steer Mode: Helps move the bed in a straight line.
- 5th Wheel Steer: Allows for tighter turns and enhanced steering ease.
- IntelliDrive Transport System: A permanently attached powered drive mechanism for minimal applied force during transport.
