Inspection of mechanical components
99-145912-A Chapter 8: Service & maintenance 8-69
8.8 Inspection of mechanical
components
8.8.1 Inspection for critical wear
This chapter contains guidelines on how to manually inspect the
mechanical components of the ADU for critical wear. Note that this
inspection requires a solid understanding of the ADU components and is
best done by a certified service partner.
8.8.2 Inspection of wire-rope isolators
The ADU has 4 wire-rope isolators. They protect the antenna from
vibrations that could either reduce pointing accuracy or even damage
some of the electronic hardware. The isolators are designed to last for
the entire lifetime of the ADU, but under very severe conditions they
might get worn down more quickly. It is therefore important that they
are inspected visually by a trained service technician to avoid any
problems due to worn-down wire-rope isolators.
The following figure shows where the wire-rope isolators are located. To
see them in your antenna you must open the service hatch, see To open
and remove the service hatch on page 3-21.
