Tilt Module
CHAPTER 6 ADVANCED STABILITY & TILT MODULE
1 INTRODUCTION
The R-net Advanced Stability Module (ASM) uses accelerometer technology to help maintain the turning stability of
wheelchairs, in particular fast front wheel drive models. In the event that the wheelchair does approach an unstable situatio n
the ASM will control the wheelchair turning speed whilst the is joystick deflected. It is recommended that for front wheel drive
chairs both an ASM is fitted and the Enhanced Front Wheel Drive (eFWD) software algorithm is employed. Contact the Curtiss-
Wright applications department for a detailed set up procedure for front wheel drive chairs. In addition, the ASM can also be
used as a Tilt Module (TM)
a typical application being to measure the angle of recline of a wheelchair’s adjustable seat. To allow bo th an ASM and a TM
to be used on the same wheelchair, there are two different part numbers
D51508.xx = ASM and TM selected by programming
D51557.xx= TM only
NOTE:
D51508.01 = ASM only
It is not possible for two Modules of the same type to be connected into an R-net system. However, if two tilt related
functions are required, then an ASM (programmed to Tilt) and a TM can be used.
2 INSTALLATION
The ASM can connect into the R-net serial bus at any convenient point.
